What is the purpose of practicing yoga? Yirser Ra Hotep describes it as such: "The goal of yoga and meditation is to achieve a self-reliance, a self-independence; the ability to create your own reality, to create and generate your own thoughts and your own ideas, your own consciousness and to move yourself into whatever direction that you choose." Holistic (or even better wholistic) health includes an enlightenment in all areas of life. We walk through life manifesting on so many levels, often subconsciously, and other times intently. Why are we not prioritizing our manifestation of self-reliance and generating our own thoughts and consciousness as Hotep states? Perhaps the most known and proven way to begin this journey is not necessarily through reading or prayer and external knowledge, but through looking inward by way of meditation and yoga. As a yoga practitioner, the journey began with changing the mindset, carving out the time as a priority and of course - discipline.

Kwanzaa - A celebration for unification, self-determination, and appreciation. We honor ancestors, we embrace the black value system, we learn to build together, we break bread - together.
Each year we begin anew with lofty resolutions, determined to shed the past, shed the weight, start saving, searching for a new job, setting educational goals, and so on. But before we get to that we should take a moment, perhaps more often than not, to honor those who came before us. During Kwanzaa we are allowed an opportunity to not only remember our ancestors by offering libations, but we are able to do this collectively. We share the memories which are sometimes triumphant, sometimes painful, with a group of like minds and spirits. We encourage you to pour libations as often as possible, perhaps in your daily prayers, meditations or other rituals. If you feel so inclined use the comment box below to share the name of that wonderful person or persons who have transitioned. Together, we can invoke these spirits, ask for guidance, and perhaps NOW you may be empowered to set resolutions for your new year. - Ase'
"The Fixers has sought out Clevelanders who operate like fixers. People who work within large social networks to build Cleveland’s vitality, and social and economic equity."
(Excerpt from www.thefixerscleveland.com) "FOR THOSE WHO DARE TO RISE!"Mental illness has no color, but it is rampant in the Black community. We would love to celebrate the triumphs and achievements, the goals we've met, the lives we've changed, etc., but the fact is, none of this matters if we're not addressing the deeply rooted problems that exist. Whether it's PTSD, daily trauma from racism, domestic or street violence, hunger, miseducation or any other ill in the lives of Black people and other people of color, we have to find ways to cope and ultimately address the ailments inherited from these various sources. On November 9, Archie Green brought a special, rare, and impactful program that begins to question our style of healing, through the platform of hip-hop. He opened up the floor to a real discussion about the trauma that we face, the ill means of coping that we've adopted and the resources to explore. There was a panel of artists, psychologists, sociologists and the like. Two amazing results - 1) The process of healing has a new face and 2) This is promised to be the first of many sessions that are bound to begin peeling off the layers that has hid so much pain and become a perpetual stigma in the black community.
