Mental illness has no color, but it is rampant in the Black community. We would love to celebrate the triumphs and achievements, the goals we've met, the lives we've changed, etc., but the fact is, none of this matters if we're not addressing the deeply rooted problems that exist. Whether it's PTSD, daily trauma from racism, domestic or street violence, hunger, miseducation or any other ill in the lives of Black people and other people of color, we have to find ways to cope and ultimately address the ailments inherited from these various sources. On November 9, Archie Green brought a special, rare, and impactful program that begins to question our style of healing, through the platform of hip-hop. He opened up the floor to a real discussion about the trauma that we face, the ill means of coping that we've adopted and the resources to explore. There was a panel of artists, psychologists, sociologists and the like. Two amazing results - 1) The process of healing has a new face and 2) This is promised to be the first of many sessions that are bound to begin peeling off the layers that has hid so much pain and become a perpetual stigma in the black community.
